INTRODUCING THE SHALLOW HYBRID HUNTER AND SHALLOW HYBRID HUNTER JR.

Following the groundbreaking 2021 release of the Hybrid Hunter, Strike King is back with two new twists to the innovative hard plastic lure. Introducing the Shallow Hybrid Hunter and Shallow Hybrid Hunter Jr.

“With so many companies out there, it’s rare that a truly remarkable lure comes along and catches anglers by surprise, but that is exactly what the Hybrid Hunter did,” said Strike King Product Development Director Todd Castledine. “The design and action are simply like no other.”

Like the original, the Shallow Hybrid Hunter and Shallow Hybrid Hunter Jr. are designed to excel around vegetation. The Hybrid Hunter is built with an unmistakable L-shaped bill, allowing the bait to achieve depth and run horizontally unlike any crankbait on the market. Additionally, its flat-sided body is designed with a high level of buoyancy, allowing it to rise out of vegetation quicker than other lures, greatly reducing grass snags and hang-ups.

The Shallow Hybrid Hunter and Shallow Hybrid Hunter Jr are crafted with the best attributes of a traditional crankbait, but can be fished well with a jerkbait and square bill technique. “That’s why we call this little guy the hybrid,” explained Castledine. “It’s not really a crankbait, and it’s not really another lure. It performs like a hybrid of several exceptional lures in one.”

Though the original was built for fishing vegetation, the Shallow Hybrid Hunter has a growing reputation of performing well around timber and rock, as its bill design allows it to deflect off cover, veer off course, and smoothly correct. “We call this hunting,” explains Castledine. “And as the name implies, the Hybrid Hunter can hunt like no other.”

Another stand out feature of Shallow Hybrid Hunter is the amazing sound chamber that emits a rattle like few baits on the market. Castledine explains: “Fishing around dense cover, like the Hybrid Hunter is engineered to do, requires you to call fish out of the grass. We built this bait to really get their attention.”

GARMIN ANNOUNCES TACTIX 7 TACTICAL SMARTWATCHES

OLATHE, KS – Garmin® International, Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd. (NYSE: GRMN), today announced the tactix® 7 Series, a new class of purpose-built tactical smartwatches. Leveraging a new 5-button interface with a responsive touch screen, the tactix 7 Series provides dedicated tactical, training and performance features, wrist-based navigation, and comprehensive health and wellness monitoring. Prepared for operations day and night, the tactix 7 Series now includes an always-on NVG-compatible reflective display and a dedicated multi-LED flashlight for low-light conditions. Featuring robust battery life across all three models, including enhanced solar charging on select tactix 7 units, users can focus on everything from HIIT workouts to HALO jumps and worry less about recharging.

“The new tactix 7 Series is an ideal premium timepiece for everyday use while pulling double duty as a must-have for any tactical kit. Whether heading to the gym, hiking with your family or preparing to land on the X, you can depend on tactix 7 to help get you there,” said Dan Bartel, Garmin vice president of global consumer sales. “Thanks to premium materials and a new sophisticated design, tactix 7 is a trusted companion whether you’re in the field on assignment or in a meeting with clients. It is truly a watch ready for any challenge.”

Built to endure

The rugged tactix 7 Series is built to a military standard (MIL-STD-810) and water-rated to 10 ATM1. The new metal button guards with reinforced metal lugs are paired with a black DLC coated titanium bezel and rear cover, as well as black tactical nylon QuickFit bands on tactix 7 Pro Series, to create a watch as tough as its users. Available in three models, all tactix 7 units feature a large 1.4” display with a scratch-resistant sapphire lens. Users can feel confident knowing the sapphire used is considered one of the hardest materials on earth, ensuring the tactix 7 display remains operationally ready even in harsh environments.

New to the tactix 7 Series is a dual touchscreen and button user interface. The traditional button controls work in any environment and are matched with a responsive new touchscreen for direct access to selections and functions. The powerful 5-button and touchscreen interface enables quick and intuitive engagement with the topographical maps, offering confident “off-grid” situational awareness.

To lead the way during night operations, the tactix 7 Series provides a new built-in multi-LED flashlight providing quick access to a bright, steady light in either white or a dedicated green. Users will find the green light useful in maintaining their eyes’ natural night vision.

Tactix 7 Series customers can utilize stealth mode, which collects distances traveled and biometric data without recording location data, to physically train or during operations. Leveraging this security feature ensures customers can use tactix 7 – and even upload logged data – without concerns of revealing location information through popular mobile training apps. By not recording location data to the device, stealth mode also protects operational security should a device become lost.

The tactix 7 Series brings significant battery life gains to the rugged smartwatch family; tactix 7 – Standard Edition provides up to four weeks of battery life in smartwatch mode and – thanks to advancements in solar technology – tactix 7 – Pro Series can provide up to 37 days of battery life in smartwatch mode2.

Service-ready features

Packed with dedicated features for tactical operations, the tactix 7 Series includes night-vision goggle compatibility mode, Jumpmaster, dual-position GPS formatting, projected waypoints, and the ability to erase all user data in a matter of seconds should the need arise. During airborne operations, individuals can use Jumpmaster for three jump types: HAHO, HALO, and Static. Set the watch to dual-positioning mode, and it will simultaneously display two sets of coordinate systems, such as MGRS and latitude/longitude, on a single data screen. When night-vision mode is activated, the backlight settings of the screen will reduce to a level that won’t interfere with the function of night-vision goggles.

Both civilian and service aviators will benefit from the tactix 7 Series Direct-To Navigation feature, which allows users to navigate straight to an airport in the world aeronautical database or use the “Nearest” function to activate a path to a nearby airport. Additionally, pilots can also access aviation weather, including NEXRAD radar, METARs and TAFs, to see winds, visibility, barometric pressure and more directly on their tactix 7 unit3.

Everyday support with advanced training

Designed for all-day use, the tactix 7 Series features Garmin’s 24/7 health and wellness tools including Pulse Ox, wrist-based heart rate, respiration and stress tracking, plus Garmin wellness insights such as Body Battery™, Fitness Age and Sleep Score with Advanced Sleep Monitoring4. The tactix 7 Series is also compatible with other Garmin devices including satellite communicators such as inReach® Mini 25 and dog tracking devices such as Alpha® 10.

Leveraging Garmin’s advanced training technology, all tactix 7 units can help customers reach their training goals. In addition to dedicated sports apps from hunting to mountain climbing to strength training and more, the tactix 7 Series provides tools for customers to reach peak performance. These tools include Real-Time Stamina to monitor and track exertion; a Recovery Time Advisor which takes into account training intensity and factors like stress, daily activity and sleep to estimate the number of hours of rest needed to properly recover from a workout session of the same exertion; and Daily Workout Suggestions, which acts as a personal trainer providing workout suggestions based on current training load, training status and overall fitness level.

Global navigation

Using multi-band GNSS support, customers can access multiple frequencies sent by navigation satellites for improved position accuracy in areas where GNSS signals are reflected, weak or typically don’t penetrate. All tactix 7 units come preloaded with multicontinent Topo maps from the customer’s regions and provide free access to download additional maps from around the world. For recreational uses, the tactix 7 Series come preloaded with Public Land Boundaries Maps, SkiView Maps, and more than 42,000 full-color golf courses around the world.

Customers needing the enhanced solutions provided by Applied Ballistics (AB) will be pleased to know the tactix 7 – Pro Ballistics Edition now integrates with the AB ecosystem, including the AB Synapse™ app and sensor integration.

BASS PRO SHOPS’ WORLD FISHING FAIR DOUBLES CONSERVATION COMMITMENT

Guests from 47 states and Canada, several hundred thousand strong, gathered in Springfield, Missouri to celebrate fishing in what is being hailed as the biggest event in the history of angling, conservation, and the great outdoors

Springfield, Missouri, home of the “Grandaddy of all Outdoor Stores,” was put on full display as people from across the nation came to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Bass Pro Shops at the World’s Fishing Fair. Guests traveled to the Ozarks from 47 states and Canada to attend what is being noted as the greatest fishing show and sale on earth. On Saturday night, April 2, Johnny Morris presented a donation of $1.5 million to benefit conservation during the Hank Williams Jr. concert, representing 100% of all ticket sales to the World’s Fishing Fair and Concerts for Conservation – doubling the initial pledge of 50% of all ticket sales.

“I have never felt more proud of our Bass Pro team, our vendors, and our conservation partners,” Johnny Morris said. “Thanks to this collective effort, and with the support of our generous customers and the City of Springfield, we are able to make this donation that will help further crucial conservation efforts for years to come. The fact that we were able to host this event and make this donation to help celebrate our 50th anniversary right here in Springfield makes us very proud and very happy!”

This donation — which represents 100 percent of the ticket sales from three nights of “Concerts for Conservation” and 100 percent of the admissions to the World’s Fishing Fair—is the latest development in Johnny Morris and Bass Pro Shops’ longstanding tradition of conservation leadership.

“As highlighted in our longstanding partnership, both Toyota and Bass Pro Shops have a shared interest in supporting important environmental and conservation efforts through events like the World’s Fishing Fair,” said Pete Carey, Toyota Financial Services Group Vice President and President of Private Label. “To bring awareness of and benefit conservation through an event of this magnitude is truly significant and impactful in this ongoing effort to protect the great outdoors.”

The Fair was packed full of outdoor enthusiasts from throughout North America in a celebration of all things fishing, hunting and conservation.

Along the way, they made first-time boat ownership more affordable for thousands of families.

ANGLERS TO COMPETE FOR THE ULTIMATE PRIZE WITH THE BIGGEST AUDIENCE IN FISHING HISTORY AIRING LIVE INTERNATIONALLY ON NBC

Following a series of regional qualifying tournaments starting this spring, 350 two-person teams will compete in an internationally broadcast championship finale this fall at Big Cedar Lodge on famed Table Rock Lake. The competition will also include international teams from around the world including Japan, Spain, Germany, Romania, Mexico and Holland.

CELEBRATING BASS PRO SHOPS’ ORIGINS

On the eve of our 50th Anniversary, the championship brings Bass Pro Shops back to its birthplace in the beautiful Ozark mountains of Missouri. Prior to founding the beloved outdoor brand in the back of his father’s liquor store in 1972, avid young angler Johnny Morris grew up float fishing on Ozarks rivers and later, Table Rock Lake, before spending five years competing on the professional bass circuit, which continues to have a profound impact on his life.

“Fishing in the first national BASS tournament on Table Rock Lake in 1970 rewarded me with friends for life and served as my inspiration to start Bass Pro Shops. Fishing on the BASS Tournament Circuit also helped keep us abreast of the latest emerging trends in fishing and enabled me to stay closely connected to our customers. And without our loyal customers and industry-leading independent boat dealers, we simply wouldn’t be here today. This tournament is our way of giving thanks and rewarding our customers with the chance to land the catch of a lifetime. Beyond offering the ultimate prize in fishing, we’re excited to celebrate our heritage, raise funds for conservation, and have some big fun with people who love fishing as much as we do,” said Johnny Morris.

Morris underscored, “We are also very grateful to our network of independent boat dealers. Their passion and support for helping get so many anglers and families out on the water has made this dream possible.”

Regional qualifiers will take place at some of the best bass fishing locations in the country while offering up plenty of fun:

Entry fees are $450 per person, $250 for youth ages 12 – 17, and free for kids under 12. Entry includes a US Open Gift Bag for each team member with exclusive goods valued at $150. Most importantly, entry fees will go to conservation and the future of fishing (see details below).

Due to anticipated high demand, boat owners can only register for one qualifying event, with all entrants placed in an independently verified drawing to determine the 250 teams eligible for each event. Individuals who do not receive a slot in the regional qualifiers can register for the “last chance” qualifier on Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas, with registration opening later this year.

2. Win one of several existing fishing competitions across the United States and around the world organized by authorized independent dealers of Tracker, Ranger, Nitro, Triton, Sun Tracker, Tahoe and MAKO brand boats, with details available at basspro.com/usopen.

3. We’re also proud to make eligible the winning teams from the three major national collegiate championships: As a continued investment in the future of the sport, Johnny Morris and Bass Pro Shops will honor the collegiate fishing champions of the three top college trail events with an invitation to the championship with special prizes and recognition for this division.

EPIC 3-DAY CHAMPIONSHIP FINALE AT BIG CEDAR LODGE ON MISSOURI’S LEGENDARY TABLE ROCK LAKE

The National Championship will take place in November, on one of America’s most legendary bass fishing lakes, Table Rock Lake in Missouri’s beautiful Ozark Mountains. Internationally televised on NBC in what is anticipated to be the largest audience in the history of the sport, the epic 3-day championship and star-studded festivities will be hosted by Bass Pro Shops’ Big Cedar Lodge, America’s Premier Wilderness Resort.

The National Championship will consist of a 5-fish limit each day, with overall weight recorded determining the champion at the conclusion of the three-day competition. Awaiting the champion is the $1 million cash prize. The angler who catches the biggest bass receives a 21’ fiberglass RANGER, NITRO or TRITON bass boat, a TOYOTA Tundra truck and other incredible prizes.

The event will be broadcast live on NBC Sports Network on Sunday, November 21, followed by a feature special airing on NBC later this year.

Note: There is no additional entry fee to participate in the final championship event for those who qualify in regional events.

ANGLERS TO HELP RAISE OVER $1 MILLION FOR CONSERVATION AND THE FUTURE OF FISHING

The tournaments will benefit local fish habitat with proceeds supporting The National Fish Habitat Initiative. One-third of all entry fees will directly support the project. Bass Pro Shops will match each donation as will Toyota, a longstanding conservation partner, enabling an amount equal to 100 percent of all entry fees – over $1 million – to benefit conservation.

The National Fish Habitat Initiative is a major conservation effort that can trace its roots back to Table Rock Lake. To improve the fisheries habitat that assures high-quality fishing in our lakes, in 2007 Johnny Morris convened the Army Corps of Engineers, National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, Missouri Department of Conservation, and Arkansas Fish and Game Commission to establish a research-based approach to improving habitat in Army Corps of Engineers-managed reservoirs.

Piloted on Table Rock Lake, the resulting effort established a national model for freshwater reservoir habitat efforts that continues to positively impact fish populations. Since 2007, the initiative has supported over 1,000 projects in all 50 states, restoring tens-of-thousands of acres of habitat including freshwater impoundments and over 2,000 miles of rivers.

In keeping with a longstanding commitment to conservation, Johnny Morris and Bass Pro Shops is partnering with local conservation agencies to help ensure all fish are released responsibly following a fish-friendly weigh-in.

Review of The Hydrowave

Bassmaster Elite Series Pros Frank Talley and Clark Wendlandt talk about how they feel the Hydrowave generates a few more bites close to the boat when fishing. The HydroWave KVD H2 is a Marine Audio Device based on the reactive senses of a Bass and other predatory fish. The HydroWave H2 delivers the latest in patented, sound emitting technology, effectively imitating the audible underwater sounds of baitfish and fish-feeding activities. Research has proven these sounds stimulate feeding in game fish. In addition to the 16 sound patterns on the H2 Bass HydroWave, the KVD H2 has 9 additional sound patterns designed by Kevin VanDam for specific fishing situations:

• Shallow Power

• Shallow Finesse

• Vegetation

• Top Water Schooling

• Off Shore Structure

• Off Shore Schooling

• Off Shore Finesse

• Marinas/Docks

• Crawfish

Garmin Force After 1 Year of Usage

The Garmin Force trolling motor burst onto the scene and was widely received nationwide. Force trolling motor has the power to move you from spot to spot more quickly and stand up better to winds and currents — and it’s still whisper quiet. Anglers at all skill levels put it to the test but how did it perform for touring pro Clark Wendlandt from Texas to Canada? Here is the recap after using it for a full year.

Strike King Rage Cut-R Worm

Widely regarded as Strike King’s most versatile worm ever, the Strike King Rage Cut-R Worm can be flipped, pitched, Texas-rigged, Carolina-rigged, swam weightless or fished on a weighted hook. Clark Wendlandt reviews this bait that features a Strike King’s Rage Tail with a customized hi-grade plastic formulation. The Rage flange on the tail delivers the fastest tail flicker rate on the market. Measuring in at 6-inches, the Strike King Rage Cut-R is also a great choice on a drop shot or split shot. Any way you fish it, the Strike King Rage Cut-R is too much for bass to resist. Rage Tail – Soft Baits with Big Attitudes. Find out what the Rage is about in this video on and off the water with Bass Master AOY Winner Clark Wendlandt.

Winter Cold Water Cranking

We are going to talk Strike King crankbaits today. The really interesting thing is when fishing cold water how do you pick which bait; how do you pick which color and where do you store it. Frank Talley – a Bassmaster Elite Series Pro and friend of mine chimes in with his thoughts. “I like to start with a smaller profile bait and the reason for that is with the cold water it’s just like anything, the smaller bait fish are going to struggle in the colder water. In other words, they’re more fragile than a larger older adult bait fish. We aren’t going to throw an 8XD crankbait or 6XD crankbait more than likely and we’re going low. Flat sided is good preferably a 1.5 flat. It’s an 8–10-foot diver and the real narrow profile has a real tight wobble coming through the water which is not obtrusive to where it spooks fish this time of year.”

red crankbait
Strike King KVD 1.5 Flat Side Crankbait

Different Color Crankbaits

Let’s talk about trying different colors. How much is it competence? How much is it the fish really biting it? How much is it the windows of time that they actually bite it? “I think it has a lot to do with confidence. This time of year, getting into that late winter pre spawn so to speak, the reds are hard to beat. We believe that it started in Texas but now it’s kind of taken over the whole country going red. We’re either going to throw some kind of shad or a crawfish, something red. I tried a particular bait with a lighter hue and just couldn’t get anything. It didn’t seem to like that color but as soon as I switched to the red I got lucky and caught a big one”

It’s all about confidence!

Frank is exactly right when it comes to confidence. It’s just what you feel is right or if you feel like you need to make a change then make the change. You can also vary up your cadence; really fast cadence, slow cadence, you can even get a bite on stop and go. You just never really know so it’s best to get out there on the water and do a little of trail and error.
